A small exhibition of Chinese pottery and ceramics, and an antiques
auction, is running at Panjiayuan Antique Market from last Saturday,
until September 23.
Experts appraised all works before their exhibitions, and the pieces come
from a variety of collectors.
Some 90 million Chinese have taken up antique collection as a hobby, and
among them, 60 to 50 percent collect ceramics, says deputy
secretary-general of China Collectors Association Xing Zhizhong.
The ceramics expert gave a lecture on Saturday at the exhibition,
offering the audience tips on how to distinguish ploys from real McCoys.
On display are ceramics of all forms, including bowls, cups, tea sets,
vases, jewel cases and incense burners.
The history of China's china depicts the character of the nation's
history.
Some pottery dates back as far as 7,000 to 8,000 years ago, while some
dates back even further to the Neolithic age. Many others are porcelains
made during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).
The country's pottery and ceramics, characterized by delicate textures,
pleasant colors and refined shapes, were among the first Chinese art
forms introduced to the Western world through the ancient Silk Road.
